Joel Abramovitz is thrilled to be a part of Reconstructing Judaism as the Director of the Wenger-Markowitz Family Education Initiative. He is eager to support Reconstructionist educators in creating meaningful and resonant Jewish educational experiences for students and families across the movement.
With over 15 years in Jewish educational leadership, Joel has served as the Judaic Studies Principal and Middle School Principal at the Ronald C. Wornick Jewish Day School in Foster City, where he also taught middle school Judaic Studies. After this role, he joined The Kitchen in San Francisco as the Senior Family Educator, building an educational community for kids ages 0-18 and their grown-ups. Prior to joining Reconstructing Judaism, Joel worked as Associate Director of Lifelong Learning at Cornell University.
Joel loves to teach and study Tanakh, analyze Jewish comedy, and think about how our work as Jewish educators intersects with pressing social change. With deep roots in California, Joel lives now in the Finger Lakes in Upstate New York with his partner Dominique and their two cats. When not working, Joel can be found in his kitchen, baking or studying cookbooks as if they were sacred texts.
