Rabbi Leora Abelson joined Agudas Achim in July 2016 while she was still a rabbinical student at Hebrew College Rabbinical School in Newton, Mass. She was ordained in June 2017. As part of her training, she served as a rabbinic intern at Temple Reyim in Newton, Mass., taught at Temple Israel in Boston, and led High Holy Day services in Traverse City, Mich., and Amherst, Mass. She was also a fellow at the Center for Interreligious and Communal Leadership Education.

In addition to serving at Congregation Agudas Achim, Rabbi Leora is pursuing certification as a chaplain. She has worked as a spiritual care intern at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Hebrew SeniorLife.

Rabbi Leora is passionate about queer and feminist theology and making the ancient wisdom of the Jewish tradition accessible to social movements and anyone building a just and peaceful world. She lives with her partner Ray-ray in Jamaica Plain, Mass. and loves to cook, read novels, make music, and spend time in the woods or at the ocean.Â
