Home » Israel » Shutafut Showcase: Meet Israeli Organizations Ready to Work with Your Congregation

Sure, you can talk about Israel. But why not engage with Israelis working for a better future for all? The Shutafut Working Group of the Joint Israel Commission (JIC) helps Reconstructionist rabbis and congregations create partnerships with Israeli and Israeli-Palestinian organizations doing important work consonant with our movement’s mission and values. Our partner organizations fall in three broad categories: Peace and Justice, Shared Society, and Evolving Jewish Civilization. In this workshop we’ll meet representatives from three remarkable Israeli organizations. Come learn about BINA: The Jewish Movement for Social Change, an Israeli-born movement combining Jewish pluralism and social action that reaches over 100,000 people a year with its programs. Get to know AJEEC-NISPED, an organization that promotes equality, empowerment, and cooperation for the Negev Bedouin community, other populations across Israel, and around the world. Primarily working with Israel’s Arab population, the organization focuses on youth and leadership development, Arab-Jewish partnership, and community resilience. Find out about Omdim B’Yachad / Standing Together, a grassroots activism network with special emphases on Israeli-Palestinian peace, climate change, and the Israeli Green New Deal. Our guest speakers will join us via Zoom, and the program will be moderated by members of the Shutafut Working Group including Rabbi Donna Kirshbaum of Omer, Israel; Rabbi Rebecca Lillian of Copenhagen, Denmark; and Julia Malaga of Congregation Beth Hatikvah in Summit, New Jersey.
