On Wednesday, April 3 at 1:00 pm Eastern, Mike Shore will discuss his Evolve essay Against Free Will with Rabbi Jacob Staub. Shore offers a valuable perspective, counterintuitive to many of us, that the belief in free will is both inaccurate and detrimental to pursuing a life of meaning and justice work.

About Mike Shore
Mike Shore grew up in Jerusalem, where he was raised in an ultra-Orthodox Jewish environment. His youth was shaped by religious teachings in yeshivah, yet his search for answers eventually led him to pursue a different path. He is a certified yoga teacher and highly committed to the practice of insight meditation. Mike has spent a cumulative year in intensive silent meditation retreats in India, Myanmar and the United States, where he deepened his understanding of mindfulness and Buddhist teachings. He received his undergraduate degree in philosophy from UC Berkeley, and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in counseling psychology at the University of San Francisco, with the intent of helping individuals achieve greater emotional and mental well-being.
About Evolve
Evolve: Groundbreaking Jewish Conversations is an initiative of Reconstructing Judaism. We seek to promote the ongoing evolution of the Jewish community by launching collective, communal conversations about the urgent issues of our day. To that end, Evolve brings multiple voices together to listen to one another’s point of view and to interact respectfully. In an era when it has become ever more difficult to remain open to viewpoints that differ from our own, Evolve cultivates covenantal conversations even when we disagree. In this way, we hope to enhance the ongoing evolution of Jewish civilization.
