Yesterday was a sad day for Israel and for all who love and support a democratic Israel.  By passing an amendment to remove the “reasonableness” criteria for Supreme Court decisions, the Knesset voted to eliminate a critical element of judicial oversight over the legislative branch and to set Israel down the path to autocracy. Reconstructing Judaism and the RRA strongly condemn this bill and call upon responsible leaders in the Knesset to end this divisive plan that will destroy the checks and balances that preserve Israel’s democracy. We urge them to revoke this law, and we will continue to stand in solidarity with the protesters in Israel and around the world who are fighting to defend democracy.  Â
