Reconstructing Judaism Endorses Bipartisan Federal Antisemitism Legislation

Reconstructing Judaism has joined a broad coalition of Jewish organizations in endorsing the Jewish American Security Act, bipartisan legislation introduced in May 2026 by U.S. Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and James Lankford (R-OK) to strengthen federal protections for Jewish communities across the country.

The bill takes a comprehensive approach to combating antisemitism. Among its key provisions, it would require the Department of Education to develop a Title VI framework addressing antisemitism on college campuses, authorize up to $1 billion annually in security grants for houses of worship and other nonprofit institutions, and require major social media platforms to be more transparent about how they handle antisemitic content.

Notably, all four major American Jewish movements have united behind the legislation. Reconstructing Judaism is proud to stand alongside the Union for Reform Judaism, The United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism and the Orthodox Union, as well as dozens of other Jewish organizations, in endorsing this bill and urges Congress to move it forward.

The Jewish Council for Public Affairs, a lead advocate for the bill, has set up a tool to contact your member of Congress directly in support of the bill. You can read the full text of the legislation here.

The Jewish Council for Public Affairs hosted Senator Jacky Rosen alongside leaders from all four movements, including Rabbi Deborah Waxman representing Reconstructing Judaism, for a conversation about the legislation.
