I. Reparations Through a Reconstructionist Lens
An asynchronous adaptation of the recorded sessions from our movement-wide Day of Learning on Reparations, developed by RRC Racial Justice Rabbinic Intern, Alana Krivo-Kaufman. This innovative approach uses ritual, discussion, text study, and personal reflection to guide a group of students in deeply engaging with the amazing Torah shared during our day of learning.
II. The Stolen Beam Series: A Study of Reparations for Descendants of Enslaved Africans in the U.S.Â
Written and compiled by the reparations committee of the racial justice initiative of the Jewish Community of Amherst, Massachusetts, we are delighted to share this excellent five-part study series that curates stimulating articles and videos by contemporary thinkers and guides discussion about moral values and racism within various historical contexts.Â
III. Author Talk: Rebecca Clarren’s The Cost of Free Land
On Sunday, March 2, 2025, author Rebecca Clarren, a member of Reconstructionist congregation Havurah Shalom in Portland, OR, spoke about her book, The Cost of Free Land: Jews, Lakota, and an American Inheritance, in a movement-wide program. We encourage our congregations and havurot to read this work of investigative journalism and personal family history together, watch the program, and use the Reader’s Guide from publisher Penguin Random House for a rich, thought-provoking discussion.
IV. Reparations in Action: How to Move from Resolving to Repairing
This program from 2025, presents four congregational projects we want to lift up, as replicable initiatives other synagogues and communities of faith might take on in their own local contexts and movements for reparations.
