Thanksgiving: A Day of Gratitude

Home » Thanksgiving: A Day of Gratitude

Jewish practice cultivates gratitude for the food we eat, the experiences we encounter, the bonds and relationships that make our lives worth living. Thanksgiving — among the most widely observed American public holidays — is a day devoted to gratitude. Reconstructionists teach that Jews live in multiple civilizations and, though a secular holiday, Thanksgiving has long occupied a space in Reconstructionist prayerbooks. These days, there’s an increased focus on the complicated aspects of the holiday and the disastrous impact that American settlement had on native populations. We’ve gathered these resources to help observe this civic holiday in an authentically Jewish way.
