Rosh Hashanah Message: In Order to Move Forward, We Must Look Back

This Rosh Hashanah, I am thinking hard about the theme of zikhronot, or remembering. In this short video, I explore the theme of remembering and how it is an essential part of seeking teshuvah, or repentance. These High Holidays, I ask you to join me and Jews across the world in engaging in deep reflection and teshuvah. May we find the inspiration and courage to do our own personal work (tikkun nefesh, repair of the soul or self) and to work toward justice (tikkun olam, repair of the world).

These are monumental tasks, but none of us are alone. Over the high holidays, throughout the year, may you be find yourself in a supportive community.

Shanah tovah. Have a sweet, happy and meaningful New Year

Shanah Tovah from Rabbi Deborah Waxman, Ph.D.

P.S.  Reconstructionist conventions in 1963 and 1967 called for the founding of the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College, now celebrating its 50th year.  What transformative visions might be born at our upcoming convention? It’s not too late to register and be part of history.
