The Department for Thriving Communities is sharing a printable resource that congregations and individuals are welcome to use in connection with this year’s observance of Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day), which begins at sundown on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 and continues through the day on Thursday, April 24.
The resource profiles the Austrian essayist, novelist and public intellectual, Jean Améry. You can print out copies to be shared in connection with your own Yom HaShoah observances, or you can include this link to the document in your e-newsletter or bulletin.
The resource offers an introduction to who Améry was and to several of his books. It includes a quote that can be used in discussions or as a prompt for a d’var Torah. Please note that this is a somber resource meant for adults, and it includes mention of difficult topics including torture, suicide and Nazism. Please use discretion in determining where and when you might make copies of it available to people.
