Thriving Communities Department
The Department for Thriving Communities at Reconstructing Judaism works to engage, cultivate and strengthen diverse communities that align with Reconstructionist values. We do this by providing expertise and targeted opportunities for every affiliated community through consultations, coaching and referrals, rabbinic placement, learning networks and other programming. We also develop resources for congregations and for our central office.
Our role is to support Reconstructionist communities and connect them to one another and to the movement at large in an effort to foster their long-term viability and vitality. We facilitate connection and co-creation by convening people on land and online through our plenum, leadership forums, days of learning, shabbatonim, trips and our movement-wide convention.
Our department also supports the work of several movement-wide commissions and initiatives, including the Joint Israel Commission, the Tikkun Olam Commision, the Placement Commission, the Jews of Color and Allies Advisory Group, and the Plenum. These bodies serve as primary vehicles for community voice within our movement.
